1974’sBlack Christmasis an absolute classic of the repulsion moving-picture show genre . The 2019 remake attempts to be chilling and fun in the same fashion , and it achieves that in a certain light , but go down short in other ways .

Great Remake: It Attempts To Cover Feminist Themes

There ’s talk of gaslighting , rape culture , issues with fraternity boys , commit misogyny , and rafts of other issue that lawfully matter to tons of people , and should . The only number is that it get to the point where it feel unnatural and kind of stilted , like these topics are n’t really like about so much by the characters , but by the people who wrote them , and that does n’t work in the film ’s favor . There ’s nothing wrong with covering these themes , especially taking hints from the firstBlack Christmasand importing them into 2019 , but it was n’t care with much aplomb . Either way , it ’s great to see these talking points in horror .
Not As Good: It Doesn’t Do Much Other Than Give Us The Horror
While it wants to talk about the issues facing char as a whole and specifically the issues that younger women face , it really does n’t spend too much metre doing that . It in spades does n’t spend much time doing that in a way that does n’t feel design and written by a bunch of multitude who feel like spell an essay on gender politics and not a horror pic . It just gets to be perturb when it hap , and it does n’t happen very often study this is a horror movie with an integral secret plan to get through .
Great Remake: It’s Better Than 2006
The remake that came out in 2006 was an absolute disaster . It digress from the original a ton , just like this one does , to be honest , but in a way that was neither fun nor entertaining . The 2006 remaking of the definitive film was scary , distressing , and probably even perfect pretty often , but its main matter lies in it being so mean - spirited . The characters were n’t sympathetic in any sense of the word . They were just things that existed for the rice beer of being pop in increasingly gruesome ways .
