Guy Pearce : Well , it was ab initio Lee Tamahori the director . Lee and I love each other to a degree . We ’d always talked about turn together , never oversee to do it . And then I got a call from him a couple of years ago now , and I just knew when he was calling that it was going to be for something that I was die to say yes to . On a journey of ego - discovery really . So it was great on all degree , really .
You run Munro , he ’s a man escaping the horrors of war , but finds himself in the middle of warfare . Can you verbalise to me a small bit more about Munro and his desire to fetch peace to the Maori hoi polloi ?
Guy Pearce : Well , I think one of the things we need to be measured of in making this film that we avoid the white savior composite that we ’ve seen so many time before in films . Of of course on some horizontal surface you ca n’t invalidate it . Lee said , the thing is you ca n’t keep off it because it happened on many example where this just would course kind of occur . Putting back together the pieces of the serviceman he used to be . I think when someone suffers a trauma , they are sort of fractured . So this was a variety of chance for him to , as I say , rebuild and reunite his center and ascertain a unexampled life for himself .

Guy Pearce : It ’s funny because yes , I can blab out about their family relationship , but I end up thinking so vividly about our relationship because she was so impressive and so centered and grounded for such a young someone . And in a style it did kind of inform us as characters because she ’s there on her home territory . She ’s there with her own sentiency of morals . Here come Munro , who is a broken man , but is what seems to be facilitate her out of a situation when very clearly from the outset it is her that is helping him . I mean , they ’re helping each other , but really she brings so much support to him , I believe , and serve him get put back together again . So it was delightful on both levels .
