monition ! pamperer for Outlander season 7 , installment 11 in front !
Outlanderseason 7 made a change to compensate for a troublesome deviation from book to screen door , but I ’m just not buying it . Like any adaptation , the Starz serial publication has drift from the source material over the year , and this mean even further adjustments must be made asOutlanderapproaches its terminal instalment . These things have a way of spiraling — what seems like a minor modification at first becomes big down the course . While I experience thatOutlanderhas managed its change rather tastefully , I ca n’t help but guess that the writers get hold of the wanton route in season 7 .
Outlanderseason 7 , episode 11 , watch William Ransom finally learn that James Fraser is his Fatherhood . I was eager to see this moment play out on projection screen , specially sincethe tv set show could n’t possibly go about things the same way as in Diana Gabaldon ’s books . On the page , William realized that Jamie was his beginner when he insure the man as an grownup for the first metre and noticed how similar they looked . In theOutlandershow , however , William had already met Jamie several times , so this would n’t quite work on for a big reveal . Still , Outlanderseason 7 ’s solution was n’t much better .

William Learning The Truth About Jamie Just Didn’t Feel Natural
Lord John’s Wording During This Scene Was Uncharacteristically Awkard
The only account for Lord John enunciate this is that the writer needed William to take in the conversation from outside the threshold .
Lord John ’s wording here stand out to me like a sore thumb . He never had a problem acknowledging that William was Jamie ’s son , but it was an odd sentence to specify their kinship . There was no reason that he would say " your son " rather than just tell " William . “The only explanation for Lord John saying this is that the writers take William to overhear the conversation from outside the doorway . From the moment he aver these words , I knew William must already be in the house . It was uncharacteristic behavior , all for the interest ofOutlanderquickly solving its rule book - alteration issue .
A Change Was Necessary, But Outlander Season 7 Could Have Tried Harder
There Were Other Possible Solutions
The frustrating part about Lord John ’s weirdly saying " your son " alternatively of"William " is that there were several waysOutlandercould have gone about this reveal in a far more natural style . Jamie could have asked Lord John any sort of question about William , even just asking how he is doing , andit would have tip the boy off to the fact that there is a connection here he does n’t know about . William could have demanded an answer , and faced with such lineal question , Jamie would have crumbled and recite the truth . Instead , Outlanderwent with some awkward phrasing .
Lord John Grey has stay an important character in Outlander season 7 , but his history with Jamie Fraser goes back way further than just this .
The welfare of William having met Jamie several times before their self-aggrandizing confrontation inOutlanderseason 7 is that the boy could have begin tardily figuring things out himself . The fact that he had become so attached to Jamie ’s rosary bead ( which Ian gave him in the TV show ’s version of events ) seemed to hint that he suspected a deep connection . I would have preferred thatOutlandertake a more nuanced coming to fixing its book changerather than some baggy dialogue . Hopefully , as the rest period ofOutlanderseason 7 explore the side effect of William ’s realization , far more tending will be take .
