Outlander
admonition : pamperer for Outlander season 7 , instalment 11 — " A Hundredweight of Stones"!Young William Ransom has mint of questions afterOutlanderseason 7 , episode 11 , and worker Charles Vandervaart is activated for audiences to take that journeying with him . The character has quite a convolutedfamily chronicle even byOutlanderstandards , purportedly abide of the short - hold up brotherhood between Geneva Dunsany and Ludovic Ransom , Eighth Earl of Ellesmere . After his parents both passed on the mean solar day of his nascency , he was provoke by Geneva ’s sister Isobel and her married man , Lord John Grey . Unbeknownst to him , he was the son of Jamie Fraser all along , whom Geneva had taken to bed before her marriage .
Such a immense closed book was well kept until " A Hundredweight of Stones , " where John and Jamie ’s heated argument — triggered by John marrying Claire upon believing Jamie dead — reaches William ’s ear at the exact moment they bring up the truth of his parentage . While there is no clock time to talk about the details with the redcoat ready to take Jamie and Claire away , it is a shameful reveal that will surely take William some time to process . Whether the repercussions spring through season 7 oreven intoOutlanderseason 8remains to be seen , but either way , the Frasers and Greys will never be the same .
Outlander season 7 submit a surprising twist by quickly wrapping up Jamie ’s death history - a pregnant relief after similar plotlines through the show .
ScreenRantinterviewed Vandervaart about how therevelation inOutlanderseason 7 , episode 11would move William ’s relationship with Jamie Fraser and John Grey . Charles Vandervaart Weighs In On William’s Dynamic With Jamie In Outlander Season 7
“William has all these memories of him back at Helwater when he was a boy.”
ScreenRant : Jamie got to mouth to Wiliam as a man for the first fourth dimension in the midseason finale . Obviously , that did n’t intend much to William himself at the time , but what was it like for you to have that scene with Sam ?
Charles Vandervaart : You lie with what ? It was really peculiar because it was a long time come . I got hurtle as Jamie Fraser ’s Logos , and we spent the first eight instalment not really interacting at all . We had that one very first scene where he saw me from afar , but William did n’t see him . In a sense , I did get to work with him on that day , but it was one of those weird moments where it felt — because I was still comparatively new to the show at that stop — a little morsel phantasmagorical because that here and now did n’t encounter until then .
Then it was really happen , and there ’s a lot of emotions in that scene . evidently , he almost just shot me about a daytime before , and I knew that as well . And William has all these memories of him back at Helwater when he was a boy . So , it ’s a very loaded panorama , even for William who does n’t understand the most loaded part of the scenery : that that ’s his dad . And , I mean , it ’s all going to add up to a climax very before long .
Outlander follows Claire Randall, a married nurse from 1945, who is transported back to 1743 Scotland. Amidst political intrigue and danger, she navigates life in the past and becomes torn between loyalty to her husband and the love for a dashing young warrior.
ScreenRant : And of class , we have to sing about the import when William descend brass - to - font with the fact that Jamie is indeed his birth Church Father . What is go through his thinker at that moment , and can you fluff how he ’s going to divvy up with it ?
Charles Vandervaart : I think it ’s just absolute topsy-turvydom and rage . And because he ’s Jamie ’s son , there is that fire in him ; that fundamental Scottish rage . I do n’t think he address with it in the adept means . I think he get a little moment angry , for sure .
But from William ’s perspective , his full life sentence , his moral compass , and his mother wit of management all come from his identity as this English Lord . And that falls apart in a moment . It turn out that all of these masses that he conceive care for him — that do like for him — were the very citizenry lying to him for his intact life . I think he lose his sense of ego in that instant , and suffer hoi polloi hurt people , so I think he ’s a bit of a tornado at the moment .
Outlander Does Not Make It Easy For John Grey Or William Ransom To Find Requited Love
“I think the Greys are just generally a little bit sad, aren’t they?”
ScreenRant : We get more perceptivity into your relationship with your other dad , Lord John Grey . Can you spill about how William realize his father ’s endless loneliness ?
Charles Vandervaart : Yeah , I opine the Greys are just generally a little bit sad , are n’t they ? Williams inherit that as well , but perhaps it ’s something they could attach over because — poor William , I am rout for him and Ms. Rachel Hunter , but I believe his cousin might have him beat . I think it ’s maybe something they talk about over a game of Bromus secalinus , that ’s for sure .
ScreenRant : Last but not least , you did mention Ms. Rachel , and my heart breaks for poor footling William . Do you think he can find sexual love elsewhere , or is he doomed to repeat his father ’s mistake ?
Charles Vandervaart : Oh , I still think there ’s Bob Hope . I think he ’s going to end up with Rachel in the end . That ’s my hypothesis . [ Laughs ] I know there are a series of books that maybe think otherwise , but I ’m rooting for him . I ’m in demurrer right now .
I reckon eventually he will find sexual love , but I do imagine he has a lot of soul - searching to do . I reckon he has a lot of healing to do . Like I articulate , anguish people hurt people . He has to get over his identity element crisis that he ’s currently facing before he can , I think . truly be present for another person .
