I ’ve just recently delve into the dark & unsettling human race ofSTALKER 2 : Heart of Chornobyland have been having a blast learning more about the narrative and research the game ’s fascinating environments . Beyond the minorbugs that have since been set by the late mend , it ’s generally reinvigorated my cacoethes for these sorts of first - person survival titles while at the same time reminding me how much the " biggest " game of 2023 actually lacks .

Bethesda’sStarfieldis different thanSTALKER 2 in a ton of room , but it also shares a moderately close resemblance in how it introduces fresh Nonproliferation Center and furnish quests and dialogue . Although I might be bias to some degree , as I ’ve always favor the barren post - apocalyptic wastelands of a future Earth more than the vast surface area and intrigue of blank , I ca n’t facilitate but sound off the feeling thatSTALKER 2clearly illustrates whatStarfieldtruly lacks .

STALKER 2’s Missions Feel Like They Have High Stakes

I Want To Explore The Side Missions

Something thatStarfieldis significantly lacking is the connective tissue between its most compelling side delegation and the overall world in which the game take place . There field few energize missionsthat can stand alone , like " Operation Starseed , " which sees the player meet unforgettable characters like Amelia Earhart , but these quests are few and far between .

And even when the side missions in themselves are interesting , the stake in these pursuance experience inconsequential , with no expectant shock on the cosmos . Do n’t get me wrong — the stake inStarfieldare high . After all , the fate of the universe(s ) hangs in the Libra the Balance . That state , I ca n’t didder the recurring feeling that nothing that I do in the game really matters .

STALKER 2 : Heart of Chornobyl is an ambitious and engrossing unfastened - worldly concern immersive sim , putting you in the Zone , an unnerving and abyssal office .

CertainStarfieldquests like " Mantis"and " Juno ’s Gambit " are very compelling , but more often than not , they palpate abrupt from the rest of the events in the Settled Systems . Perhaps this is a result of the game genre itself , as the vacuum of space is much bigger comparatively than the various zones inSTALKER 2 . That said , in the end , the experience feels larger inSTALKER 2 , with the content within commission encouraging further exploration and experimentation .

Stalker 2 Encourages Exploration & Discovery

Procedural Generation Needs To Die Already

Although so far , I ’ve spent a fraction of the time inSTALKER 2when compared withStarfield , I feel like I ’ve been much more methodical with exploring everything thefairly vast maphas to proffer . I ’m not certain if this is a result of handcraft environments , compelling narrative , or just a more stimulating countersink for most of the points of interest , but it ’s likely a combination of all of those things . So far , I ’ve advanced from the Lesser Zone to a zone call literally Garbage , but theinitial area that you start up in has enough compelling side contentto keep you in it for a lot of real - human race hour .

Starfield : Shattered Space promise to fulfill the expectations of Starfield fans , but fall short in more than one way and fail to hand over fun .

So far , I ’ve had to explore a flighty cave and got attacked by a mutant , tracked down a ravaged group of Stalkers in " The Lost Boys , " and I generally try out to run down any lost stashes and any blue exclamation marks that end up demo up on my map . UnlikeStarfield , STALKER 2 ’s side quest contentalways feels like it ’s conduct somewhere , and I do n’t find bogged down by the private undertaking within the foreign mission .

Exoskeleton in Stalker2

To be clear , procedural contemporaries can or even should be used in certain cases , but over - reliance on the tool leads to wearisome , repetitive , and plain uninteresting content based on a number of random variable star . This method acting of level - making pales in comparison to the imagination of a human spirit level designer .

I cogitate this aspect of chaining smaller task in a mission for a bigger goal is an crucial cay , as this quest complex body part is nothing new , but doing it in a compelling and interesting agency is an prowess form that not all creatives have seemingly gotten down . This is made fairly plain , asSTALKER 2 ’s main questline is n’t really that complex — I lost an artifact , and now I want to get it back , but the path to take there can have a net ton of different variables and may end up differently from my friend , depending on how I border on situation .

A Somewhat Complex Story With A Simple Goal

AlthoughSTALKER 2 ’s narrative is more dense thanStarfield ’s in some respects ( specially since I ’ve never played the other games ) , it does n’t sense like NPCs in the plot are cat dialogue my way . Sure , it ’s not perfect , and there are some confounding scene to the story ( especially for a first - clip musician ) . That said , discovering the lore in the game is something that I desire to do , and it does n’t palpate like a occupation .

sneak 2 has been a gross ton of fun for me so far , but it also remind me of a hidden indie gem that I think a lot of hoi polloi would enjoy .

STALKER 2 ’s main story and side content palpate like it has some level of stakes . Either a quality dies , or some slice of interesting lore is discovered , but the quests themselves finger more important , with thespian autonomy thrust to the forefront . These do n’t feel like artificial selection , either — as pushing the boundaries of what is satisfactory or moral in the ravaged barren in The Zone is one of the more compelling aspects of the game .

Random tasks tenuously twine together this tissue in the case ofStarfield , where player are commanded to do this random thing on this random satellite — the campaign of which is some tangled reasonableness in society to reach a goal someplace else .

Decisions people make in the game feel logical , and even though it fall into the figure of " meet this somebody " only to have that guy say " meet this other person , " I never really feel baited or like what I just did was a giant waste of time . When it comes toStarfield , I ca n’t say the same thing .

Stalker 2 Proves Starfield’s Problems Aren’t All Technical

You Can’t Blame This On Bugs Anymore

Perhaps the most stark thing that I ’ve realise since playingSTALKER 2andStarfieldis that there areso many " issue " withStarfieldthat it impart focus aside from what I think the biggest job actually is . It ’s not the proficient limitations ofStarfieldthat are hold it back — it ’s really the lack of a compelling narrative .

STALKER 2 is a big biz , and navigating it might be a challenge without a few tip to light the direction and make the opening time of day of the game easy .

StarfieldandSTALKER 2are both different games in different setting , but there ’s one connective thread that ties them together , and that ’s the story and drive behind the things that players do in the game and the effect it has on the characters in the world . Random tasks tenuously string together this tissue paper in the case ofStarfield , where players are command to do this random thing on this random planet — the parkway of which is some convoluted reason in monastic order to achieve a destination someplace else .

A dialogue scene with Boo in Stalker 2.

InSTALKER 2 , the wager are much more in your face and gritty — just like the game ’s aesthetic . Although more straightforward in some ways , it ultimately pushes the player along and compel them to complete the mission , not for the wages at the ending of the burrow , but just to reveal what exactly happen to cause the often brute outcome . It ’s this power ofSTALKER 2that , at least in my opinion , makes the storytelling much more compelling than it is inStarfield .

In a secret plan where you could immerse yourself as the main character of the story , Starfielddoes a somewhat pathetic job of actually fleshing out the reference from a truly comprehensive aroused perspective . Even though Skif — the seemingly nameless and faceless fictitious character you diddle as in the game — has an established story that you learn little about , STALKER 2still feels like the more immersive and compelling biz .
